Our Routes

At Country Lanes we take great care to provide you with the safest, most enjoyable cycling.
Expert route advice is included with all our services - whether hiring a bike for just a day or undertaking one of our cycling holidays.

Our detailed route sheets are regularly checked for accuracy by cycle centre staff who know their local area and take pride in showing you the very best cycling in the National Park. We are always happy to offer advice to non-customers who do not know the area, and rent out our route sheets for £1 per day.

Cycling in the New forest is by and large gently undulating, making it a suitable destination for all cyclists. We offer a variety of routes in the New Forest using a mixture of off road trails & quiet roads.

Our shortest ride is 6.7 miles and takes in local forest trails to Brockenhurst. It’s a good option if you only have a very limited time, or have young children.

Subject to cycle network opening we have an 8.7 mile ride taking in the Standing Hat area and its extensive off-road network near Brockenhurst. This is a good part day ride and sees plenty of off road tracks.

If you have not cycled in the area before then we recommend our ‘Tall Trees and Deer Fields’ ride at 14.5 miles. An option on this ride visits the National Parks Arboretum and the ride takes in beautiful heath and forest cycling and visits the Oak Inn pub at Bank for lunch. This is by far our most popular ride. See the route sheet here.  For a shorter ride we have an 11 mile version of ‘Tall Trees’ particularly suitable as a part day ride as it can be shortened to 8.5 miles.

If you have tried the above rides then Tom’s Route at 13.7 miles comes recommended. It takes in Hatchet’s Pond and Beaulieu Heath with an option to stop at the Turfcutter’s Arms for lunch.

Another option is our Lymington ride at 14.4 miles, which takes in this beautiful seaside town. The High Street has great shopping & a walk along the Solent is recommended. This ride mostly uses quiet country lanes.

For those wishing to venture further we have a circular forest ride visiting Burley, which is 22.7 miles. This is a full day ride and takes in large sections of the off-road network and the old railway line on the return trip to Brockenhurst. This is our hardest ride and is only suitable for more experienced cyclists.

Another option is our Beaulieu and Buckler’s Hard ride at 23 miles. This uses forest tracks to cross to Hatchet’s Pond on Beaulieu Heath, followed by quiet roads taking in Beaulieu and Buckler’s Hard. There is an off road finish to this ride. There is plenty to see and do along the way.
